Flushing Meadows Natatorium : ウィキペディア英語版 | Flushing Meadows Natatorium
The Flushing Meadows Natatorium, also known as the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Natatorium and Ice Rink, is an facility housing an Olympic-sized pool and an NHL-standard rink.〔("Highly Efficient Cable-Stayed Roof Spans the Seasons." ) (PDF) ''Metals in Construction 2007: 14-19.'' Metals in Construction. Steel Institute of New York, 2007. Retrieved February 10, 2012.〕 Located inside the historic Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, site of the world’s fair in 1939 and 1964, the public facility caters to all New York City residents. Built in 2008, the $66.3 million project is the first indoor public pool to open in New York City in four decades.〔Dunlap, David W. ("Modern Pool for Public Is Opening in Flushing." ) ''The New York Times''. February 2, 2008. Accessed February 14, 2012.〕 Initially, the building was intended to serve as the venue for water polo events for the 2012 Summer Olympics, but when that bid was lost to London, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation proceeded to build the pool anyway. An innovative building resulted with 130-foot-high twin masts and a swooping roof form. The tall masts serve as an architectural marker extending through the Queens skyline and as the structural anchor that hold the cable-stayed roof. They also allow the clear spans needed to house the Olympic swimming pool and ice skating rink.〔 The Flushing Meadows Natatorium is designed by Handel Architects in association with Kevin Hom Architects (formerly Kevin Hom +Andrew Goldman Architects).〔("Gary E. Handel, AIA" ). Handelarchitects.com. Retrieved July 21, 2012.〕〔("About Hom and Goldman Architects" ). Hom+Goldman Architects. May 2, 2012.〕 ==Context==
